Reglazing vs. Refinishing vs. Resurfacing: Is There a Difference?

September 29, 2026 • 2 min read • ProFinish Resurfacing Solutions

The short answer

Reglazing, refinishing, and resurfacing all describe the same job: repairing your existing tub and recoating it in place, instead of tearing it out. Different companies and different regions just use different words, so search for any of them and you will land in the same place.

What the job actually is

The old surface is cleaned, chips and cracks are repaired, and a new coating goes on. Nothing is demolished, so your tile, plumbing, and layout stay as they are. Most jobs are finished in 4 to 5 hours, and the coating is built to last 10 to 15 years.

What it can be done on

Porcelain, fiberglass, acrylic, and cast iron bathtubs. Showers, tile walls, cultured marble, vanities, and countertops can be refinished too.

What to ask any company

Ask what the prep involves. The coating is only as good as the prep underneath it, so a proper job includes a thorough clean and acid wash, repair of chips and cracks, new caulking, and an epoxy primer before the topcoat.

We serve all of New Mexico and Arizona. See the bathtub refinishing page, read what drives the cost, or request a free quote. We do not service outdoor hot tubs.
